80s Drinks

The 80s are all the rage right now, and whether you're hosting a theme party, binging Stranger Things or shopping for some cute 80s clothing making a comeback, there are several fun 80s drinks you can try to complete the look and feel of your 80s adventure.

AHS Takes a Trip to the 80s

Season 10 of American Horror Story is visiting 80s slasher territory in AHS: 1984. So many different TV shows and movies are traveling back to the 80s for their plots and it's very exciting to see how some of them are depicted, particularly when they give us those nostalgic nods we're always looking for. Stranger Things has done it best, but we're also excited to see what Wonder Woman has to bring.

No Boys Allowed In This Retirement Home

Retirement is a scary topic for a lot of people who struggle to save, no matter what age you are. For a group of seven friends, it was a simple concept: pool your money together to create a dream home to share. It's ingenius: it saves everyone from being lonely, ensures that everyone has someone to help care for one another and it cuts the costs.

Maggie Rogers Grateful Dead Tribute

Did you check out Lollapalooza? If so, you may have already spotted Maggie Rogers' outfit, which was a tribute to the Grateful Dead. She actually borrowed the ensemble from the Dead's sound engineer's daughter, and fans are loving it. She didn't just tie-dye something new (or buy it new, either), but actually chose an outfit with a historical significance.

HIV Cured in Mice

For years, a relative of mine has stated that they are convinced that we have a cure for AIDS, but that the government would never release it because it would cost the pharmaceutical companies too much money. I get the conspiracy and I know big pharma is the worst--especially in a nation that should have had universal healthcare ages ago--but I don't know if we have ever found a cure. What I do know is that scientists have cured HIV in mice, and humans may be next!

Peace Island

Have you ever dreamed of being in a gang of roaming cats? We're not talking about Cats the musical, but a new game on Kickstarter called Peace Island. It's an open world adventure about an island of cats who have to survive together after all of the humans disappear. It's such a cool concept that I can't wait to try it.

Yummy Jam Recipes

Making jam is a lot of work, at least in my opinion, but the results are so worth it. Homemade jams and jellies taste so much better than the ones you buy at the store, and not only because of the fresh ingredients you use. They also have just the right amount of sweetness per your liking!

A Frog in Your Salad

My best friend told me the story of how her mother found a scorpion once while cutting open a head of lettuce! Since then I've been so careful when I chop up mine it's ridiculous. What are the odds, right? Well, they're probably super low, but there are plenty of people who find critters in their salads every day.

Watermelon Mint Frose

To be fair, summer ain't over yet. But between our AC dying, Bath and Body Works releasing its Halloween line already and our co-op organizing fall activities, I'm so ready for it to be. The bugs this year have been terrible, too. Refreshing summer cocktails do make it better, though, and this recipe is perfect for this time of year.

Millions Of Peaches, Peaches For Me

One of my goals is to grow our own fruit trees, but I know it can be a time-consuming process. I've read that you can't even eat the fruit for the first year or two for many fruits that you grow at home, too. My aunt bought a house with a peach tree in the front yard, and I'm so excited to eat peaches from it! I also want to have one of my own, so these peach growing tips will come in handy.

Keeping Kitty Safe And Calm Post-Surgery

sarajean's picture

In the middle of one of our most hectic weeks of the year, our cat had to have surgery. She's doing great, but it's been fun keeping the cone on her so she doesn't lick the glue that's holding her stitches shut open! It's also been fun keeping her away from the rest of the cats and dogs, some of whom want to help her lick herself clean. Isn't that sweet of them...

Remembering Toni Morrison

Nobel Prize-winning author and poet Toni Morrison passed away at age 88, leaving many fans with fond memories of her incredible, mind-changing works from over the years. I remember reading The Bluest Eye and just weeping, and re-reading it as an adult and feeling the same way, yet even moreso. The author and poet had a way with words like none other, but she also helped to pave the way for many other Black women to not only tell their stories but to finally be heard.

Gun Control Now

sarajean's picture

It's not a mental health problem. Funny how if the shooter isn't white, it's labeled terrorism, but every time a white supremacist murders a bunch of people, it's his "mental illness." It's not a violent video game problem, either; peaceful nations around the world have plenty of violent video games and citizens with mental illness without mass shootings every week. It's a GUN problem. There is NO reason citizens need automatic weapons. Zero. Zip.
