Some friends and I were recently talking about how ads for tampons and pads are often so hilarious, featuring women running through a field looking so happy and carefree and nothing at all like we look on our periods. It's hilarious for us to even picture this while we're so angry, cramping, bloated, headache-y, exhausted and trying not to murder anyone. (Why are most murderers men, again?). I do have some friends who go camping on their periods, but it doesn't always go very well.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan is the President of Turkey. Turkey has been a secular nation since its formation around 1920. Erdogan has worked to bring more religion into the governing of Turkey. He is a controversial figure who has cultivated and angered both the U.S. and Russia. Now he is calling for Turkey to have its own nuclear weapons.

While the debate rages over whether or not nuclear power should be part of the future energy mix for the U.S., the nuclear lobby is spending millions of dollars trying to convince policy makers, investors and the public that nuclear power is needed for climate change and should be propped up with tax payer money if it is not economically viable.
