The threat of climate change is looming over not just all of humanity, but the animal kingdom. I don't know about you, but my heart broke seeing those fires in Australia taking koala habitat, and experts say that climate change is already to blame for much of the shrinking habitat we're seeing so many creatures lose. I read that birds are even shrinking, likely due to the stress of coping with higher temperatures.
Dessert lovers, I love marshmallows so much. I even buy marshmallow-scented candles, soap and body oil to wear! You might say I'm even known for it in my family. I'm literally burning a marshmallow candle right now! So any dessert with marshmallows, especially melted or burned and roasted the way I like them best, is good in my book.
My sister loves to spoil her cats with seasonal gifts. They are her children, after all! She shared some of the adorable Christmas cat houses they have at Target this year and I must admit, I kind of want one for my own cats. They aren't as expensive as I had guessed, and they would add a big, colorful spot of cheer in the room!
One of the things I'd like to start to do in 2020 is utilize the Farmer's Almanac more. I've been browsing their website and not only is it informative, it's got really fun suggestions, colorful illustrations and info on everything, from fishing to full moons.
Lately I've been singing the praises of a lot of indie companies that I like, and I thought I would recommend one that I recently ordered from called Sugar and Spite. The company is famous for its creepy vibe, with products with names like Bat Cookies, Boneshaker and Bitten and Smitten.
Eggnog is popping up everywhere already and oh, it makes me want it! I'm actually not a fan of much eggnog; it's so rich I can only sip a bit, but I sure love the smell of it. (Fortune Cookie Soap actually has an eggnog product called Moose Mug that I bought during Black Friday for that very reason!) I also love thinner versions of it, like this one that I came up with this week!
Throughout the year, I usually either buy my pets whatever treats are on sale or make my own with sweet potato, but during the magical month of December all of the beautifully packaged treats lure me in and I can't help but want to buy all the goodies for my fur babies, especially when it comes to the lovely offerings of Trader Joe's.
Remember Repo! The Genetic Opera? If not, don't worry, this is much worse: a startup company is buying the blood of teenagers to sell to rich people for thousands of dollars to help them be healthier and live longer. This is incredibly distressing, especially considering the laws already on the books about organ selling. Also? People donate rather than sell blood to save lives, yet we're allowing this to happen?
During a sale, I recently purchased a few new-to-me syrups from Jordan's Skinny Mixes, which I fell in love with over the summer. Their syrups have no sugar, carbs or calories, and they have a huge array of flavors. I've really enjoyed their Unicorn Syrup in my tea, which tastes just like blue raspberry. Who needs a snowcone when you have that?
Massachusetts is the first state to ban all flavored tobacco products, but more states are sure to follow as more deaths of children related to e-cigarettes are reported. Honestly is anyone really surprised by this? Just because the odor's not there doesn't mean the harm isn't, and with so many fun flavors, of course kids are going to get hooked. Sigh.
In my house, we've been reading Poetry for Young People: Robert Frost, and we've really enjoyed it. It's the perfect book for fall and going into winter if you want to study poetry, and the illustrations are lovely. Each poem has its own page or two-page spread, which I really appreciate since a lot of poetry books cram them together. That's fine for older readers but we all appreciate a bit of space and beauty, and this makes it more accessible for kids.
For my birthday, I purchased a sample box of keto goodies from Linda's Diet Delites. You can get a great deal at 50% off if you sign up for their newsletter, and it was inexpensive to try these different products in the sample pack.
There's a video going around about how shocked British people are to discover the costs of healthcare in the United States. Watching it made me tear up a bit, knowing how we could have it, knowing that most of the developed world has free or near-free healthcare and here we are with our for-profit system that's letting people die every single day.
In high school, I must admit that I loved dissection. It wasn't until I was presented of dissecting a cat in Anatomy when I decided it was too much, took a different course instead, and became a vegetarian. My veggie journey has changed off and on and I'm currently not one, but I still think vivisection is wrong, especially since we have so many other wonderful alternatives now.
Do you like holiday gift games? I think it's much more fun (and cheap!) to do games like Secret Santa or Pass the Gift (or whatever variation you enjoy playing) than buying for every person in your family. Then you spend more time hanging out, eating, and playing games without the stress of the pricetag for all those gifts!
It's the most wonderful time of the year! Are you ready to meet up with Santa Clause? If not, maybe your kids or even pets are. This year, my family got matching PJs to get a photo with Mr. Klaus, which is saying a lot since my kiddo is now a teenager! I'd love to get pictures somewhere nice but affordable. I don't really care about package deals or location as much and don't mind bringing our own camera, either. But I'd love a fun element, if there are elves, a sleigh or reindeer involved!
When it comes to shows like South Park and Fahttps://screenrant.com/family-guy-funniest-spoof-episodes-imdb/mily Guy, I have to admit that I love the spoof moments best, especially when it's regarding pop culture, politics or a fandom. It doesn't even matter if it's a fandom I love or hate as long as it's a quality spoof without too many low blows. Screen Rant recently rated the top 10 funniest spoof episodes as rated by IMDB and I wonder if they really are the best ten.
Moments ago I received an email from the Kamala Harris campaign stating that she was suspending her campaign due to lack of funds, but we all know that Harris also hasn't been covered nearly as much as she should have been during this race--especially in regards to Joe Biden, whose coverage is still baffling.
