Normally when scientists find an area that's been untouched by humans for a long time, we are filled with wonder over the amazing species they discover and present to us. It's like magic; anyone who loves science knows that.
But when scientists found 33 creatures in a cave that's been sealed for millions of years, many Internet users were quick to tell them to STAHP. Close it, some tweeted, because we don't need more surprises this year!
While apartment hunting, Drew Kaufman found an odd feature: someone made a fridge in Stewie Grifin's likeness, right down to his red and yellow baby clothes. The entire fridge is decorated this way; it's not just a vinyl cover on the front or a magnet.
Kaufman seemed bemused by the find, but people on Twitter reacted more strongly to it, going as far to say they were furious over it. Obviously they jest but it is a curious, random find!

The other day I saw a friend post a story about how there are over 30 species of aliens and I thought, "Great, enslavement and harvesting is next on my 2020 BINGO card." I didn't even wonder. It's been that kind of a year. Yet the story was about a hypothesis and not real species that have been in contact with us. It got me thinking... what would surprise us after this year?
Thai restaurants are springing up all around me, and I'm simultaneously thrilled and saddened since, while it's my favorite food, it's also something I can't eat on the regular due to carb and sugar content. But it's definitely one of my favorite treats to enjoy on occasion, and Thai drinks like bubble tea, Thai coffee and Thai tea are the best.
Female Talk is an inclusive space where anyone who identifies as a woman is welcome. This has zero bearing on whether or not you wear a bra, have children, menstruate, were labeled a girl or boy on your birth certificate or any other societal constraint. Women are women when they say they are; it's that simple.
As we participate in social distancing and self-quarantine, many companies are helping us be more social via apps, games and activities. Have you tried playing drinking games via zoom, for example?
From Most Likely To to Online Uno, Remote Battleship to Never Have I Ever, there are lots of different games that are adaptable enough to play via remote access. In fact, many of them might even be better played this way!
Many of us are still in quarantine, whether by choice or by mandate, and finding ways to connect while social distancing remains as challenging as ever. More companies are coming up with fun ways to help us out, though, like Remote Insensitivity, which is a way for us to play Cards Against Humanity from our computers!
Back in 1995, the Grateful Dead just started their final tour together in High Gate, Vermont. Bob Dylan was the opening act, which means the show was an incredible one to catch. It doesn't seem as if it's already been 25 years since we lost Jerry Garcia later that summer.
With Covid-19 delaying filming on many programs and movies, fans are wondering just how old the cast of Stranger Things will look during the fourth season. We know that filming had already begun before quarantine, according to Gaten Matarazzo, who plays Dustin on the show, and the cast had been informed that they'd be on break for two weeks, which has since turned into months.
Portland is poised to reopen restaurants soon and many restaurants are sharing their tips for reopening safely. Opening later rather than sooner in order to take the time to really train up with the new guidelines seems to be one of the major keys right now, especially since restaurants are trying lots of new guidelines out to keep everyone safe.
After losing all of our original family cats over the years, none of us feel especially close to our "new" cats, even though we've had all of them for over a year, some longer. I do think we adopted on the "rebound" rather too quickly, but my husband wanted to cheer me up and kept showing me cats to adopt. The next time we adopt, we've decided to take our time.
After finishing Red, White and Royal Blue this week, I must agree with many other book lovers. This book has everything. It's hilarious, romantic, steamy, woke... and it gives us an alternate reality where a woman became president instead of Trump four years ago. The book takes place in 2020 and centers around Alex, a bisexual Mexican-American teen whose mother happens to be president and whose boyfriend happens to be the prince of England.
Many of us are striving to support more Black-owned businesses, which is something we can do ALL of the time and not just during moments when we're rallying against police brutality. It's easy enough to search for Black-owned businesses in your city, too.
After watching Stuber over the weekend, my husband and I had a lot of things that we loved about the funny movie and several that we also didn't care for. One of the highlights for me was Dave Bautista's character's love of dogs. The wrestler turned excellent actor is known for loving animals and his insisting on taking the dog from a harmful situation was so heartwarming in the scene, even if there was a shootout (where no animals were hurt) later.
The other day I was perusing some recipe sites and ran across something magical: disco fries! A Jersey diner-style food, it's simply French fries with gravy and mozzarella cheese. I kind of needs these right now, how about you?
These sound a lot like the poutine many of us know and love that hails from Canada. Brown gravy and mozzarella are traditional from what I've read, but plenty of people experiment with other cheeses and gravies, too.
With only a few days before Father's Day, it's getting to be crunch time! Do you know what you're getting or making your father figure(s) yet? Many dads love homemade crafts and gifts, so that's always a route to consider.
While politicians like to throw around the names of a few drugs they think are worthy of fighting Covid-19 with little to no evidence, there are actual doctors and researchers working on treating patients with more viable methods, and now it's been revealed that a steroid looks promising in fighting the disease for patients who are already hospitalized.
As with Mother's Day, this year Father's Day will look quite different for many people. Between social distancing, travel plans canceled, venues being closed and other changes, it's possible that any Father's Day traditions may have to be altered or even placed on hold until next year.
If you love political activism, making a difference, progressive values and pop culture, chances are that you'll also love Camp GLA, or the Granger Leadership Academy. Inspired by Hermione Granger of Harry Potter fame, it's a conference with speakers, workshops, fun events and more.
As a big wax melt lover, I'm always on the lookout for new indie wax melt sellers. Some of my favorite Indie bath and body companies make them (or candles), but a lot of times they're not the quality of a company that specializes in just wax. There are all kinds of waxes, too, from scoopable wax to bars, single shot samples to loaves, cubes and more. Some companies even create cute shaped wax melts.
