If you're running out of games to play at home, have you considered printing some freebie games out on your printer? This is a really easy way to play via Zoom with others since you can send the link and have each person print what you need prior to playing. You can even play classics like Battleship this way.
Many games that are pricey at the store are even available for free or nominal fee if you print them online. Some even let you download for a donation or for sharing via social networking.
Many of us want to support Black-owned businesses as much as possible, but it's not always easy during shelter-at-home times. Luckily many Black-owned businesses do offer delivery and takeout services, so it's still possible to support many of the businesses you love during these times.
Like many businesses and individuals, the Grateful Dead supported Black Out Tuesday on June 2, 2020 by avoiding their own posts and promotions, instead focusing on supporting the fight for change worldwide. Many said the gesture was an empty one if not followed by actions, and while the Dead are widely known for their support, it would be great if fans could share their actions in the chat.
Sharing Black-owned businesses is important each and every day, and there are so many wonderful Black-owned restaurants in the United States that we could share them that often and never run out of listings.
One of my all-time favorite poems that never fails to move me is Emma Lazarus's "The New Colossus," the poem we see engraved on the Statue of Liberty. Its inspiring message seems forgotten to many people living in the United States today, particularly those against immigration and justice.
As an 80s kid and fantasy lover, I thrive on all things Goonies, Neverending Story and yes, even Flight of the Navigator. None of these are perfect but I would argue they come close! Many would say that 80s comedies are where it's at, and that those comedies can help us cope with the stress of 2020.
Being a cat owner sometimes makes you act in strange ways, amirite? My partner and I have found ourselves at home on date night just entertaining ourselves with the cats and laser lights. I'm almost certain that cats have mystical powers of putting you to sleep by rubbing up on you and purring. And we even make stuff in our houses to accommodate our cats, like putting carpet up on top of shelves so they can scratch or relax there.
What are you reading to help educate yourself on the history and impact of racism in the United States? What are you reading to your children? Let's share them in the chat.
It's important to celebrate, share and support Black-owned and operated breweries, distilleries and wineries whenever we get the chance, so why don't we share some of the ones that we know?
If there ever was a time for us to listen to Black voices and take action for Black lives... it was every day up until now. But we need to do it now more than ever, and like many have already said, not just for George Floyd, but for Emmett Till and every life murdered since. Today has been a day of Blackouts and protests, and I'm sure they will continue until we see some real change.
Have you ever designed your own custom doormat? This is a really cool way to put those artistic skills to practical use, and you can put just about anything you want on it--your family name, handprints, anything you like! Artsy Fartsy Mama has a whole tutorial on how as well as several templates you can use if you're not sure where to begin or want to make your doormat with something to trace.
If you're looking for a list of Black-owned restaurants and bars across the nation, Chowhound has you covered. It's more important than ever to support Black people and Black voices however we can, and that includes where we spend our money. Obviously you'll need to check with each one to see if they are open for business right now, but many do have takeout and delivery.
