The Group of Seven is an inter-governmental political forum consisting of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the USA. The G7 members just held a three-day summit in Cornwall, England. According to a joint statement issued at the conclusion of the summit, the G7 countries will lead a technology-driven transition to net-zero carbon emissions.
Foratom, the European nuclear trade body, and Nuclear Medicine Europe, which represents the pharmaceutical and imaging equipment companies in the field of nuclear medicine, have just issued a joint position paper which states that Europe must take action to sustain the current level of the medical radioisotope supply. They say that the European Union should promote new research reactor capacity.
As someone born in St. Louis, of course I'm a fan of gooey butter cake. If you've never had it, it's a must if you visit St. Louis! Keep in mind it's super rich and a little goes a long way. I've always been a fan of McArthur's gooey butter cake but plenty of small bakeries make it well, too. I'm not as big a fan of the coffee cake variety.
Many kids still can't get vaccinated, and many families aren't yet ready for a crowded camp experience. I've been lucky to find some online opportunities through libraries as well as a local small day camp that was very limited, but I'm still looking for things during the other weeks of the summer. One great idea is to do your own summer camp with plenty of crafts!
If there's anything I've learned from both toddlers and finicky felines, it's that the expensive gadgets we buy mean much less to them than the packages they come in. Cardboard boxes, pipe cleaners... these are the things that keep my cats happy. In fact, I often find a bunch of pipe cleaners curled up around the house after a cat or two drug them out of a supply closet somewhere!
This week I saw a recipe for Greek Smashed Potatoes, which made me really crave potatoes! They are one of my favorite foods, which I can't eat often. When I do, I make it count! Fun fact: if you can't have potatoes and are craving them, sliced rutabaga works well in an air fryer for French Fries and sautéed radishes are great for pan-fried potatoes!
Governor Abbott from Texas sure doesn't seem to like animals. He vetoed three pieces of popular legislation this week, including a bill to protect dogs. The Safe Outdoor Dogs Act would have protected dogs from being left outside in the heat without food or shelter and regulated their collar and leash sizes. Who couldn't get behind a bill like that?
Some of us gardeners like to fly by the seat of our pants. More serious gardeners have checklists of things they want to accomplish each month (sometimes each week, especially during planting season). I'm a combination of the two and I have to admit that last year I was much more serious than I am this year. I have more on my plate this season so I am not growing nearly as many crops, but I still have a few to harvest and water daily.
When it comes to games, we Millennials are likely to be known for our Oregon Trail days more than anything else. But there are plenty of modern games that really highlight who we are, some of them more hilarious than others. Avocado Smash comes to mind!
Being on TikTok has shown me that people all over the world have some pretty strange pets. There are people who consider bears their pets, and people who have enormous Big Cats at home. I'm not talking housecats that need diets but 200-pound wild animals that could certainly, and easily, kill you. I don't know about you, but I think it's not a great idea to keep a pet like that.
