Should Stewie Have Saved Brian?

sarajean's picture

The Griffin family dog Brian has been both loved and hated by audiences over the years, much like most other characters in the show. He's often served as the family voice of conscience and, aside from Stewie, might be the smartest member of the family. That said, he has also been a major jerk many times over, especially when it comes to the women he dates or lusts after.

Pangolins Are Adorable, But Also Most Trafficked Animal

sarajean's picture

It's easy to see why people might want a pangolin for a pet. They are so adorable and they resemble the niffler from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Unfortunately, they are a threatened species and the most heavily trafficked one in the world, which is one reason why people should not "adopt" them. Another is that they are very hard to take care of and often die for no reason.

New Species: The Chocolate Frog!

sarajean's picture

An adorable new frog species was just discovered in New Zealand and it has a name to match! The chocolate frog isn't the treat you'll find in the Harry Potter novels but a close relative of the Australian green tree frog, which might tell you everything you need to know. If you love frogs, you might already know just how adorable the Australian green tree frog is, too!

Bath and Body Works Semi-Annual Sale is Here

sarajean's picture

The Bath and Body Works semiannual sale is here, bringing with it the deals that many shoppers wait six months to get. Twice a year the company puts forth a plethora of sales, many of them up to 75% of, so it's understandable that people might wait to buy anything until now. Of course, you also take the risk of things selling out, which usually happens to the items I want most!

Still, it is a great time to stock up on gifts for people who like the company's products, and they now offer pick-up from store, making it s a safer option for many shoppers.

Summer TBR

sarajean's picture

How's your June reading going so far? Like every summer, I have a pretty varied TBR and way too many to actually read, but I'm reading Why Bother? and I'm Still Here right now and enjoying both. I'm also reading A Queer History of the United States and I brought home a bunch of books from the library about psychology and trauma--ranging from Siegel to Beckwith to Van Der Kolk--because I'm training to work a helpline and am feeling super interested in these subjects as a result.

The Vanilla Volcano

Coldstone Creamery has a special place in my heart because the owner of our local store is so lovely. She's hosted groups of our kids there for years and educates and entertains them while letting them make their own ice cream! It's such a fun trip, and it's my favorite place to go to get a quick favorite ice cream.

All The Puddings

sarajean's picture

Do you ever made homemade pudding to enjoy, either as a dessert or a breakfast treat? Depending on what you put in it, it can certainly be both. Lots of people are riding the chia pudding train, which can be great for your health as long as you don't overdo it on the sugar. If you load it with goodies like chia, flaxseed, fresh fruit, protein powder and other nutrients, you could start your day with a real powerhouse of a treat!

The DOJ Is Still Protecting Trump

sarajean's picture

Remember back when Biden accused Trump of using the Department of Justice as his own personal attorney service? Trump is still doing that. Why on Earth is our Department of Justice still protecting him from sexual abuse allegations? Trump's special protection is long overdue for removal and we need the DOJ to allow him to be investigated for his crimes.

Cat Programming Coming To Netflix

sarajean's picture

No, this isn't more programming FOR cats designed to make them leap at your TV screen, but programming inspired by cats and dogs. Netflix says that after such a hard period in history, focusing on animals will provide some much-needed, light-hearted fun for viewers. That may be very true; I haven't watched much heavy content since Covid began.

All The Pride Crafts

sarajean's picture

While I'm a little under the weather, my new Pride bunting came in and I'm really starting to feel it. Normally I'm a supporter on the sidelines for my pan kiddo. I'm a pan non-binary person but I'm in a cishet presenting marriage so I never really feel like it's for me. My teen has me thinking otherwise this year, and while I always get excited for my kiddo (we get a gift, go shopping, try to hit an event, etc.) this year I'm excited for me, too.

Boozy Ice Cream Cocktails

sarajean's picture

While I won't ever say no to a mudslide on a hot day, I also know there are so many other great flavors and life's to short for chocolate ALL the time! So I thought I'd look up some new alcohol-infused ice cream flavors to check out this weekend as the weather continues to get way too hot for my tastes where I live.

D'Ambrosio Gelato

sarajean's picture

Normally I'm a froyo kinda person, but I really love any frozen dessert as much as the next person. Sometimes you just get a craving for that smooth, delicious gelato, and when you do, where else is better to satisfy that craving than D'Ambrosio Gelato?

Yes, they have any flavor of gelato or sorbetto that you could ever want, from peanut butter, mascarpone, sweet cream, hazelnut and more to strawberry or delicious lemon, but it's the affogato I'm after!

Disney-Inspired Drinks

sarajean's picture

TikTok gets a bad rap for being a goofy place for Gen Z's to do dance challenges, but this Elder Millennial has found it to be a fantastic place for recipes, decorating ideas, woke discussion and much more. There are lots of content creators who focus on Disney-inspired everything, from outfits to decor, and the Disney cocktails are especially fun.

There's Still Time!

sarajean's picture

While I'm bummed that we missed the opportunity to grow many of our regular veggies this year because time just got away from us, I'm still planning on growing plenty of fast-growers and you can, too. It might be too late for potatoes, but here are some crops we can absolutely still grow!

Beans

Beets

Radishes

Broccoli

Turnips

Lettuce

Collards

Pride Poets

sarajean's picture

Little pop-up poetry booths are some of my favorite things on Earth. I love poets just scribbling a quick poem for someone for a donation to a cause (or as a living!). It's such an engaging and intimate way to connect with a stranger. I had no idea that you could call and get the experience over the phone, but you can at Pride Poets.

Weird Things We Do That Make No Sense

sarajean's picture

We humans are so odd. We do such strange things every single day without even questioning it, and most of them are simply habit. We'd never even think to question them. I remember reading about the woman who chopped off pieces of her turkey every year because her mom did it, and her mom did because hers did, and hers did because... it didn't fit in her oven! I often wonder how much of my own life might be like that.

Four More Cast Members Added To Stranger Things

sarajean's picture

One of the biggest flaws of Stranger Things is that all of the characters who are most likely to die (the children especially) just... don't. Of course that's common among 80s sci-fi/horror so it makes sense, but that also means we have come to expect each season's new characters to be more at-risk than the main gang. Hopefully a terrible fate isn't in store for any of these four newcomers.
