Remember the Classics

sarajean's picture

There are new games coming out every single month, which can be very overwhelming. There's absolutely no way to play them all, which creates this kind of gaming FOMO for people. Don't buy into it! Whether it's board games or video games, sometimes the best fun to be had is in the classics, especially if you're bonding with someone who wants to learn and you have the skills to teach--or vice versa.

Celebrating the Month with Poetry

October always seems so heavy with themes. It's Anti-Bullying Month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, LGBTQIA Awareness Month, and so many other holidays. It's also home to Coming Out Day. Between all of these and other events, there is lots of room for emotional processing, creativity and expression, which is where poetry comes in.

Saga Returns!

sarajean's picture

After waiting for what feels like decades (but really has been three years!), Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples are returning with Saga in January and I pretty much need a countdown calendar to mark the days because I am THAT excited. This may be the most exciting event of 2022.

Making Your House Smell Like Fall

sarajean's picture

When it comes to senses, my olfactory sense seems to be my most sensitive. I pick up everything in a house full of pets and science projects, and some of them make me a bit queasy, even if the rest of my family can't even smell the scents. That's why I like to make it smell like a bakery or a metaphysical shop to make myself more comfortable. There are lots of places to shop and get things to accomplish this and I really like most of them.

Halloween Zoo Events

When the zoo gets weird, it's the best time of the year. I'm not talking weird like when you see a lion gnawing on a gatorade someone threw into his pit (please report such events and try to prevent them when possible and safe--we just witnessed this happen last month!), but weird like ghosts, goblins and pirates milling around the zoo grounds.

The Dangers Of Pregnancy

sarajean's picture

Anytime someone shared baby news with me, I'm excited for them but I also feel a bit triggered. Every pregnancy I've had was a traumatic experience, more often than not in loss. The one that actually resulted in my only child was months of trauma after a premature birth at 25 weeks. Thankfully we are both here, but not without plenty of lasting complications.

FitVine Wine

There are so many different dietary needs among people that it's always great to hear about new foods and flavors available to meet different needs. FitVine Wine carries vegan, gluten-free wine without flavor additives at affordable prices. It's a great place to find a good variety of wines that will also fit into your lifestyle.

Banana Samba

When I heard about Banana Samba snacks, I figured they'd be something like dried banana chips, which I'm no fan of. But they're something totally different. Banana Samba snacks are small, chewy fruit snacks that come in a few different varieties, including chocolate, simply, classic and fit. Fit, as you can imagine, has no sugar added.

Foodie Costumes

Halloween is only two weeks away, and many people have already narrowed down their costumes for some hopefully safe, socially-distant Halloween events. Foodie costumes are always a good laugh if you like your costume more on the fun side than the scary side, so why not check out what's available?

Seasonal Growing And Eating

sarajean's picture

Growing seasonally is something that many of us try to do, especially if we're growing outdoors without a greenhouse or cold frames. There have been many times when I've grown something just slightly out of season, including my marigolds this year! They were just little green spikes all summer because I'd forgotten what I'd planted.

The Joy of Foiled Stickers

sarajean's picture

Recently I was given some stickers made by Adorably Amy Designs and I am so in love. The letters shimmer, they have clear backing and are so tiny and perfect--the way I like my stickers to be!

After going to the website I knew I had to have more for my planners and journals and found that there are lots of other sticker options available, too, including themed planner sets, like Hocus Pocus, as well as general holiday and seasonal themes, printed words and phrases and other styles..

The Best Cat Beds

sarajean's picture

There's a running joke in my house that I make a cat bed out of everything, but it's also true! If there's an empty basket, extra blanket or other strange objects in the house... an instant cat bed. If there's a box delivered, forget about it--the cats themselves will lay claim to it!

The Most Random 80s Kids Things

sarajean's picture

When it comes to 80s kids stuff and nostalgia, if there were ever a popular time to celebrate either, it's now. Some 80s things are even more popular now than they were in the 1980s! We can think celebrations of the 80s in pop culture, from Stranger Things to Ready Player One, for this resurgence, at least in part. But I think the biggest reason why the 80s are thriving again is just us 80s kids wishing for a simpler time again.

Real-Life Peter Griffin

sarajean's picture

Have you had a chance to see the real-life Peter Griffin? No, he's not actually Peter but he looks so much like him that many people find him to be as close as one can get to the point where he was even mentioned on the show. Robert Franzese doesn't just look the part, though--he is also a Peter Griffin impersonator!

It's National Cheesecake Month

sarajean's picture

It's officially dessert season! Is there a more perfect month for Dessert Month than October? All the fun flavors are out and you can find something delectable around every corner. The Cheesecake Factory is celebrating not only with their typical yummy variety of cheesecakes, but also a signature pumpkin cheesecake they are selling at Fazolis!
