    Anicet Toure is the nuclear product manager for Tractebel. Philippe Monnette is the new build department manager for Tractebel. They told the January conference that they had coauthored a feasibility study for the Estonian SMR project in which they had examined fifty advanced reactor designs.

Election Reform Now

For years I've said that instead of elections, we should see who can raise the most funds and use them on bettering the country. Then we vote on who did the best job. While that's probably never going to happen, there are some things we need to do right now to reform our elections for our new normal, which includes allowing people to vote while home to keep them protected or postponing the election until they can safely vote. This is an absolute no-brainer.

    My last post had to do with proposals being submitted to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to permit some radioactive waste to be dumped into municipal landfills instead of licensed facilities for the disposal of nuclear waste. As might be expected, these proposals have critics that say it would be a threat to public health to use municipal landfills for that purpose.

While the world has been struggling with the Covid-19 epidemic, for some industries, it is business as usual. Polluting industries were recently given a break by the Trump administration to violate regulations about dumping toxic chemical into the air and water. The implication is that this will somehow help with fighting the virus but I fail to see exactly how.
