Best Seattle Takeout for January

Many of us want to cook at home, but supporting our local restaurants with takeout and curbside orders is just important lately. It's possible to do both with some balance if we really try!

Communion, a new restaurant that was going to open before the shutdown last spring, is ready for business and looks quite promising, especially if you are a seafood lover. The Walrus and the Carpenter does as well.

Weird House Plants You Want In 2021

As someone who totally kills plants and once killed a poor Venus flytrap by giving it too many bugs before researching its needs, I really think that some plants just aren't for all zones, no matter what you do to create an artificial environment. Some plants just like their zones better than any other and that's how nature intended them to be.

Poetry Resolutions

As we launch into another semester of poetry study in my home, I know one of my goals is to make sure we include more diverse voices in our reading. My teen enjoys Maya Angelou and Langston Hughes but I don't really know many modern poets and I'd like to remedy that. I'd also like to include lots of different poetry styles and voices.

Pallas's Cat

Lately I'm seeing the Pallas's cat everywhere and I sure wish I could have one of these floofy little beasties! They are enormous, furry and SO cute. I've never met one in person, though, so who knows? Their temperament may not work in my home, and I already have three cats as it is, but I know my next cat can't be short-haired, as I'm constantly vacuuming all the places my girls sit!
